The City Council is now typically meeting only once each month. Much discussion of city business occurs between meetings in committee meetings (which occur at variable times) and in evening work sessions.

Budget discussions are starting soon, and the frequency of work sessions will be higher than usual. Below (from the March 21 Council agenda package) is a tentative schedule of work sessions and topics for the coming weeks. Meetings are in the City Central Services Complex except where indicated.

Monday, March 28, 7 pm - (1) Economic Diversification Fund and (2) City Council Rules and Procedures

Monday, April 4, 7:30 pm - Environmental Groups; (in Municipal Building Courtroom; preceded by a special meeting of City Council at 7 pm)

Monday, April 11, 7 pm - (1) FY 2006 Budget Discussion, including Personnel Ordinance Amendment, Article 11-Leave, and City Support for the Soccer Complex, and (2) Educational Foundation Presentation

Monday, May 2, 7 pm - Budget Work Session including Formal Presentation of FY 2006
Budget (to be held in the Municipal Building Courtroom and televised)

Monday, May 16, 7 pm (1) Budget Discussion [if indicated] and (2) Updates by Arnsdorff and Chilton on progress of the Oak Ridge City Center (formerly Oak Ridge Mall) and Centennial Village developments

Today's News Sentinel reports that City Council is having a work session tonight. At the last City Council meeting, they decided not to hold a work session this evening. Confused

Is a meeting truly a public meeting when the press are the only members of the public notified? This time, one reporter published an article about the meeting, but that isn't always the case. Sad
