The May 23 City Council agenda is now much longer than previously indicated.

A few of the other agenda items are
  • consideration of changes to the city's sign regulations
  • authorizing the Industrial Development Board to use the same tax incentive guidelines in the Anderson County portion of Oak Ridge that are already being used in the Roane County portion of the city (and that were the basis for waiving taxes on the US Enrichment Corporation) -- that's even on the consent agenda, suggesting that no one is believed to have any concerns about it Shocked
  • authorization to spend $17,000 in City funds for 4th of July fireworks and to waive competitive bidding for buying the fireworks -- also on the consent agenda
  • a totally new leave policy for city employees
Way at the end of the meeting Neutral , I will (on behalf of the Environmental Quality Advisory Board) participate in presenting the annual Environmental Quality Awards. There are 3 worthy recipients, selected by a citizen committee and approved by EQAB:
  • R & R Properties -- for Architectural Design in Renovation of Two Buildings and the New Social Security Administration Building
  • The Oak Ridge Art Center -- for the Art in the City mural
  • ORAU -- for Architecture in the Conference Center Addition
I look forward to the occasion Smile , but I hope the recipients can sit through the meeting. Sad (In the past, these awards came much earlier on the agenda.)

Update:
Everything on Monday's City Council agenda passed, without much discussion.
The award recipients were grateful that Council agreed to amend the agenda to move the awards up toward the beginning of the meeting.
The next City Council meeting is June 20th.
